Candy Sweetness the Summer Way – Paired with Fruit!
Rather than focus on one recipe, for this post I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite candy and fruit creations. Since fruit is commonly called ‘nature’s candy’, it only makes sense that I love it as much as I do! And while I do enjoy it on its own more often than not, for extra indulgent delights I like to pair it with candy faves. Here’s a handful that make my taste buds happy…
One: The Apple
Start with a well-washed Red Delicious apple, or another favorite apple, and slice it into apple wedges. Coat the bottom half of the wedges with peanut butter, and add M&Ms or white chocolate chips to the peanut butter. For ease, you can fill a small bowl with the candies and roll the peanut butter-covered apple wedge in the bowl. Arrange them on a plate, and enjoy! Easy, delicious and filling.
Two: The Orange
Oranges are my favorite fruit of all, and I find that while almost every fruit pairs well with chocolate, oranges and chocolate have a special relationship all their own! I start by peeling an orange or two, and separating them into segments. I then set those aside on a plate while I melt a small bowl of milk chocolate chips (I prefer milk to dark, but it’s up to you!) Once the chocolate is melted, I dip the bottom 2/3 of the orange in the chocolate bowl, and set it on a wax paper sheet to cool. While it’s still warm enough for toppings to stick to the chocolate, I sprinkle on some chopped almonds or butterscotch chips. Yum, yum, yum!
Three: The Banana
Not only are bananas loaded with potassium, they’re also brimming with potential! You can eat them alone, whipped up in a smoothie, covered in chocolate, dried into chips, etc. But one of my favorite ways to eat them involves spreading on some Nutella and sticking on some Reese’s Pieces for good measure!
You’ve probably noticed by now that I’ve got a bit of method to my fruit and candy madness: Dip fruit in something delicious, add candy to that something delicious. It may be simple, but golly gosh, it works!
